Intrauterine infections are prominently associated with PTB, yet the mechanisms by which such infections might trigger PTB are poorly understood.
Antibiotic treatment is fairly ineffective for preventing PTB signifying that the supposed infectious organisms may be ‘hidden’ within the tissue.
